HAPKIDO is a Korean martial art, designed for self-defense.
In Hapkido we use punches, kicks, locks, short sticks, canes, and
anything else we find to defend ourselves. In Hapkido, self-defense
is, DOING WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO KEEP YOURSELF SAFE AND UNHARMED.
When you study Hapkido you learn the physical techniques to enable
you to defend yourself, but more importantly, develop the self-discipline
to know when to defend yourself, and the self-confidence to actually use
the techniques when necessary.
Hapkido is a "soft" art, using an attacker’s momentum and strength against
them. While we will use punches and kicks, we prefer to deflect and redirect
an attacker's momentum and energy, instead of using brute force to attack
them directly. Hapkido is an excellent art for people who don't like wasting
energy; it is designed to efficiently use as little energy as possible, for
as much effect as possible.
Hapkido is a martial art, which lends itself very well to self-defense.
It can be learned by both men and women, young and old.
